Centerville eyes recycling options

The City Council will host an open house Tuesday on recycling options available to Centerville residents.

Staffers have studied the possibility of a mandatory curbside program or a subscription-based program.

The mandatory program would charge each Centerville household an extra $3.20 to pick up recyclables. If the city chooses the opt-in program, at least 500 homes would need to enroll and the service would cost $6.25.

If Centerville adopts one of the programs, it would be the third Davis County city to sponsor curbside recycling.

Woods Cross started its mandatory blue-bin pickup in April. Bountiful had voted for the opt-in program.

Afterward, the free drop-off recycling bins Rocky Mountain Recycling provided Bountiful were discontinued and problems arose in the curbside recycling contract, so council members chose a mandatory program, set to begin this winter.

The Centerville City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. after the 6 p.m. open house. Residents can offer public comments at the meeting, to be held at City Hall, 250 N. Main St.

Comments can also be sent through e-mail to recycling@centervilleut.com.
