Posted: 6:44 PM- A tanker truck carrying argon gas lost control while exiting Interstate 15 onto 500 South in Bountiful on Saturday. The truck rolled on its side and caused traffic detours for several hours, according to the Woods Cross Police Department.
The driver of the truck told police he lost function of the truck's brakes, which caused the heavy truck to flip on its side after he struggled to negotiate a curve while leaving the interstate about 2 p.m., said Woods Cross Police Sgt. Delos Santos.
Police evacuated about five businesses east of I-15 to 500 West as a precaution after a small amount of the gas was released, Santos said. Argon gas, commonly used for welding, is flammable, he said.
No problems were reported from the small spill, Santos said. Tow trucks worked on removing the truck from the scene into the early evening.
The driver and another passenger in the truck were transported to Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful with minor injuries, Santos said.
