An ATV driver who might have evaded police after a robbery instead led them in pursuit after they saw him driving illegally on a roadway.
Saratoga Springs officers who arrived at the Top Stop convenience store for fuel about 4:15 a.m. Sunday were unaware an armed robbery was in progress inside, police wrote in a news statement.
The accused robber saw police pull in and left the scene on his ATV, prompting the officers to try to stop the man for operating his ATV on a roadway, police wrote. He tried to flee, but officers stopped him and found on him a small handgun, a "significant amount of cash" and some merchandise from the store, police wrote. He was booked into the Utah County jail.
