An explosion in a Lehi dental lab severely burned the hands of a 75-year-old employee Monday, firefighters said.
Investigators weren't sure what caused the blast at 11:50 a.m. at Alpine Dental Lab, 1220 N. 500 West. The 75-year-old man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center's burn center, said Lehi fire Capt. Ricky Evans. Another woman who was inside the lab at the time of the explosion was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
No one else was in that room, and the explosion did not affect any of the 20 to 30 other people in the building, Evans said.
Evans said investigators have not learned which flammable chemicals were being used in the lab, or where in the lab the blast started. Some equipment was broken; investigators had not estimated the value of the loss, Evans said.
