Rebecca Hernandez-Velasco, 19, and Pedro Gaucin-Canales, 36, are charged with first-degree felony murder for the ice-water killing of Josue Contreras-Velasco on July 22, 2007.
Hernandez-Velasco was a prep cook at the restaurant and Gaucin-Canales was a manager when the alleged incident took place.
The pair pleaded not guilty to the charges in April before Judge Deno Himonas. A trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 15.
But defense attorney Solomon Chacon said Friday at a pre-trial conference that Hernandez-Velasco may accept a plea deal offered by the state. A disposition hearing is scheduled for Monday.
Prosecutor Michael Colby declined to discuss details of the offer prior to Monday's hearing. He also declined to say if the deal entails Hernandez-Velasco potentially testifying against Gaucin-Canales at trial.
According to charging documents, the boy died from hypothermia after being immersed in a trash container filled with ice water for about 45 minutes as a disciplinary measure.
After finding the boy unconscious, the defendants dressed the boy and claimed no knowledge of how he died, police testified at a November preliminary hearing.
They changed their stories two days later after being informed of the boy's body temperature, which measured at 78.6 degrees about three hours after his death was reported.
Police said each defendant blamed the other for initiating the discipline.
The defendants are also charged with second-degree felony counts of child abuse and obstructing justice.
