Posted: 4:44 PM- Charges against a Salt Lake City woman accused of shooting another woman in the eye during an April brawl have been dropped, a spokeswoman for the Salt Lake County Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Filimone Kaumoel Otu Fiefia, 28, was charged April 6 with third-degree felony aggravated assault and rioting, also a third-degree felony, in connection with a fight near 1740 West and 700 North that ended with a woman being wounded in the eye.

Filimone Fiefia and Soane Fiefia, 21, were carrying guns and yelling threats at the woman during a fight with several people, according to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court.

Filimone Fiefia allegedly brandished a shotgun and pointed it at the woman, then backed up and shot at least two rounds, court documents state. Soane Fiefia told investigators that Filimone Fiefia shot the woman in the face, according to court documents.

But Alicia Cook, spokeswoman for the Salt Lake County Attorney's office, said investigators determined a bullet removed from the woman's face turned out to not match ammunition in Filimone Fiefia's weapon. In addition, the Fiefias were likely acting in self-defense during the large brawl when Filimone Fiefia brandished the shotgun, she said.

Judge Judith Atherton recently closed the case after a prosecutor filed a motion in favor of dismissal, Cook said Thursday. In June, Judge Deno Himonas dismissed a third-degree felony riot charge against Soane Fiefia.
