It turns out that no candidates have dropped out of the race for seven Utah State Board of Education seats, despite reports from the lieutenant governor's office.
The lieutenant governor's office said Tuesday that District 11 candidate Ted Heap had failed to file a campaign financial disclosure report by Tuesday's deadline, thus dropping out of the race. But Joe Demma, the lieutenant governor's chief of staff, said Wednesday that Heap did file a report and his office made a mistake.
"He is still in the race," Demma said. "He is still on the ballot. It was an internal communication error."
Attempts to reach Heap on Tuesday and Wednesday were unsuccessful. Demma said his office realized the mistake Wednesday morning.
Fourteen candidates are vying for the seven school board seats.
