ST. PAUL, Minn. - Utah Republicans paid homage to their "adopted son" Mitt Romney and tossed two votes his way while casting the 34 others for John McCain as the GOP presidential nominee during a roll call vote Wednesday night.

Avoiding a dicey challenge from two Romney supporters who planned to hold up the state-by-state vote to force an individual delegate roll call, Utah Republican Party Chairman Stan Lockhart conceded two ballots to the candidate who claimed 90 percent of Utah's GOP presidential primary vote.

Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, played up the state's red-rock country, its snow and its vast resources of oil shale, coal and natural gas in announcing the votes and launched into a fast-paced criticism of the "do-nothing, drill-nothing Congress."

He then cast two for "Sen. John McCain's friend" Mitt Romney and 34 for McCain, who a few minutes earlier racked up more than the 1,191 votes needed to secure the nomination.

Utah was one of only a handful of states to cast ballots for other candidates. Ron Paul received a few from other states and others did not announce all of their ballots.
