Jacob M. Bolith, 31, stood silently during the hearing in 3rd District Court. He pleaded guilty in June to forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony, for molesting the 85-year-old woman at a South Salt Lake facility in July 2007. Because of the plea, prosecutors dropped a first-degree felony rape charge and a lewdness charge.
Bolith declined to address the court. But Bolith's attorney, Clayton Simms, said he felt his client has been remorseful and has taken responsibility for his offense. He asked the judge to sentence his client to a year in jail, on top of the 410 days he has already served.
But the family of the victim was in the courtroom Monday and asked Judge Robin Reese to sentence Bolith to the maximum sentence possible, which he did.
Maxine Yagues, the victim's daughter, called Bolith's actions "unconscionable."
After Bolith was arrested, at least a dozen people called police with additional allegations, but no other charges were ever filed.
"The only thing I can say is that he deserves castration," she said after the sentencing.
