Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign will open its Utah office today, marking the first time since at least 1964 that a Democratic campaign has worked so aggressively in the Beehive State. The campaign is staging an open house at its new office at 780 E. South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City from 2 to 5 p.m. The Obama campaign's state director, Suzanne Gelderman, arrived in Utah last week to spearhead campaign efforts "Record numbers of Democrats in Utah attended our primary, our fundraisers, our conventions - and record numbers are registering to vote," said Utah Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Holland. "Utahns are embracing Obama and Utah Democrats as their best choice to change a culture of GOP arrogance in Utah and just plain wrongheadedness in Washington."

Sen. John McCain's Republican campaign has regional offices in New Mexico and Arizona, but has not opened a state office in Utah.
