Ranger is now able to be fed without a tube, his eyes are focusing better on people and his leg muscles are responding slightly, said Rachel Gaines, a technician with the Southeast Valley Veterinary Clinic.
Vicky Kunz and her family returned from vacation Saturday to find Ranger having a seizure and bleeding after a burglary. Veterinarians said the dog suffered brain trauma and bleeding inside its skull.
The Kunz family, who were vacationing in Yellowstone National Park, believe the beating occurred Friday night after their neighbor checked on the dog at 10 p.m.
Kunz believes Ranger found his way indoors after the burglar left the back door and garage open.
A wedding band, two jars of pennies and an empty purse were taken.
The Humane Society of Utah has offered a $5,000 reward and the Animal Advocacy Alliance of Utah added a $2,000 reward leading to an arrest in the case.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating, but anyone with information may call Humane Society investigator John Paul Fox at 261-2919, extension 210. Fox said Tuesday that there are no leads in the case
