The Herriman City Council is urging Utah officials not to use tolls to pay for highway construction along the Mountain View Corridor. The city is one of a handful to do so in the past few months.

The two-page Herriman statement said the council supports the corridor project, but believes tolls would create a financial burden for residents. The resolution asks that Utah lawmakers and the Salt Lake County Council also oppose tolls.

West Valley City, Taylorsville and South Jordan city councils have supported similar resolutions about the proposed 40-mile freeway.

The corridor runs from west Salt Lake City, beginning at Interstate 80 and about 5800 West, and runs south to Lehi in northern Utah County.

About $650 million is needed for the first 10 miles, but so far only about $230 million has been appropriated by the state.
