A Pleasant Grove mother accused of purposely not calling for medical help after her daughter overdosed on OxyContin pills is no longer facing a homicide charge. Traci Sorenson, 45, was initially charged with second-degree felony manslaughter in connection with the May 2007 death of her 26-year-old daughter Kaydie. But the charge has been amended to a lesser Class A misdemeanor count of abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult. She is to appear in court next on Sept. 4 before 4th District Judge Gary Stott. Pleasant Grove police said Traci Sorenson was aware her daughter ingested about 90 OxyContin pills and other prescription drugs hours before the young woman died. Kaydie Sorenson had allegedly been living in a Provo motel and returned to her mother's house to stay shortly before the overdose, police said. Traci Sorenson allegedly knew her daughter had overdosed on pills the day Kaydie Sorenson died, but instead of calling 911 or attending to her daughter - who was sluggish and had slurred speech - Traci Sorenson left the house for an appointment. Kaydie Sorenson's 20-year-old sister called for an ambulance, but Kaydie Sorenson later died from a drug overdose, police said. Tracie Sorenson told police she didn't call for medical help because warrants had been issued for Kaydie Sorenson's arrest in connection with prior incidents. - Melinda Rogers
