Townships have existed for more than a decade in Salt Lake County, protecting the borders of unincorporated county from piecemeal annexations into surrounding cities.

Under House Bill 40 - enacted in 2005 Ð townships would remain intact until 2010. The Legislature also called for a survey of township residents to help determine whether to keep, or scrap, the township designation. Salt Lake County released those results Monday. With that data, the Legislature now must decide whether to make townships a long-term fixture in the Salt Lake Valley.
