Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. signed an executive order Thursday requiring state agencies to go to a four-day workweek starting next week. Essential services, such as highway patrol and the Department of Corrections, will continue their regular schedules. Liquor stores will not be affected.
The governor announced in June his plans to move toward a four-day workweek, citing energy savings that would come from closing state buildings on Fridays and reducing the amount of miles workers would have to commute.
The order says the change will be "an important step in achieving the state goal of increasing energy efficiency by 20 percent by 2015."
