An Ogden air conditioner technician died Tuesday after he was electrocuted while working at an Idaho hospital.

Kendel Oldfield, 31, was servicing a condenser unit on the roof of Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls when he was electrocuted by 480 volts, said Fire Chief Dean Ellis. In comparison, a typical wall outlet carries 110 volts, Ellis said.

A co-worker on the roof tried to perform CPR, but Oldfield was not breathing when medics arrived, Ellis said. The weather was clear at the time of the electrocution, said hospital spokesman Jeff Sayer. It is not clear why Oldfield came in contact with the voltage, Ellis said. Oldfield, a technician for Kaysville-based United Team Mechanical, was a hard-working and sought-after contractor, said United owner Ted Taylor.

"He had many customers that would call and want him direct on their buildings," Taylor said. United Team Mechanical has sent a team of experts to investigate the accident.
