Firefighters on Sunday continued working to contain the Brian Head Fire's northern flank and to mop up areas on the southern flank where heat still existed.

As of Sunday morning, the blaze — which was sparked by a weed-burning effort on private land — remained at 71,571 acres and was 80 percent contained, according to fire authorities.

Helping to attack the southern Utah fire were 787 firefighters, five helicopters, 34 engines and four bulldozers. Crews were reinforcing lines to ensure that the blaze would be contained even with windy conditions, authorities said.

The communities that remain evacuated are Bear Valley, Horse Valley, Little Valley, Clear Creek (the Iron County portion is voluntary), Little Creek Ranch and Red Creek. The Second Left Hand Canyon evacuation order has been partially lifted for those structures in the northern part of that area, while the areas in the southern near or within the fire perimeter still are under an evacuation order.

In Box Elder County, the Coyote Fire had burned about 300 acres by Sunday morning and was 50 percent contained. Approximately 40 firefighters were working to contain the fire, which began about 4 p.m. Saturday with a lightning strike, according to fire officials.
