A hiker remained in critical condition Wednesday, the day after falling about 100 feet in Zion National Park.

The hiker — a male in his early 20s but otherwise unidentified — was descending Lady Mountain, slipped near the summit and fell into a narrow ravine. A friend who saw the fall reported it at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Park medics responded swiftly but the climb to reach the hiker took nearly two hours. Medics evaluated the patient as a technical rescue team also ascended to the scene.

The man was lowered 135 feet to an area accessible by a rescue helicopter. That helicopter then transferred him at a nearby landing zone to a medical helicopter.

He was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

His condition had not reportedly changed as of Wednesday, ZNP spokesman John Marcianos said.
