A toddler found facedown and unconscious in a Highland pool Wednesday afternoon is expected to recover, officials said.
The girl, 2 or 3 years old, was in the water for an unknown amount of time at the home near 11600 North and Pennbrook Avenue when another child in the backyard noticed her and alerted several parents gathered nearby, said Landon Flack, a firefighter and paramedic with the Lone Peak Fire District. A large gathering of children and several adults was in the backyard at the time, he said.
Emergency responders were called at 2:10 p.m.
After an adult pulled the child from the water, she was limp and unconscious, and appeared ashy in color, Flack said. A parent performed CPR until paramedics arrived, an action that "saved the child's life," Flack said. Within about three minutes of paramedics' arrival, the child was coughing, then screaming and crying — a positive sign.
She was transported to Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi and "appeared to be doing just fine," Flack said.
