High water from the Logan River prompted forest rangers on Wednesday to close some campgrounds and picnic areas in the lower part of Logan Canyon.

Sites affected include the 2nd Dam day use and fishing area, the Guinavah-Malibu and Wood Camp campgrounds, Gus Lind Bridge dispersed camping area, and the Card, Chokecherry and Dewitt picnic sites.

Logan District Ranger Jennefer Parker said water surrounds picnic tables at the 2nd Dam site, and there was water in some campsites at Guinavah-Malibu. Other sites have been closed because they are close to high water, which could rise in coming days.

Parker said the areas are scheduled to open again next Tuesday, based on predictions from the National Weather Service.

Anyone with campground reservations for the coming weekend can cancel and get a refund, or ask for a spot at a different campground, she said.

Meanwhile, rangers are evaluating the condition of backcountry roads higher in the canyon, which were scheduled to open Thursday.

"Some road are wet," she said. "Others have water running down them, and there are significant ruts."
