A 58-year-old Pleasant Grove woman died Sunday afternoon after her motorcycle crossed the median and hit a pickup head-on on State Road 35, east of Francis in Summit County.

Claire Benson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, who was riding another motorcycle, was not involved in the incident, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told UHP troopers that just before 4 p.m., both motorcycles were traveling fast near mile post 18, when Claire Benson crossed into the oncoming travel lane after mishandled a turn. According to the UHP report, Benson was wearing a helmet and protective gear. The motorcycle burst into flames upon impact with the truck.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries from airbag deployment.
