A 70-year-old man was in critical condition after crashing his scooter in Draper Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The man was riding the scooter north on Lone Peak Parkway near 11900 South at 9:50 a.m. when a woman pulled her car out of a parking lot directly in front of him, Draper police Sgt. Chad Carpenter said.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, laid the motorcycle onto the pavement to avoid colliding with the car and subsequently ejected himself, Carpenter said. He injured his head severely and remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, but was expected to survive.
