Weber County authorities are searching for a driver who struck and killed an 82-year-old man out for a walk late Friday evening.

West Haven resident Harry Green was walking on 4000 South near 4300 West in West Haven when he was hit about 10:45 p.m., Weber County sheriff's Sgt. Matt Jensen said. The two-lane stretch of road often is busy and has little space for pedestrians due to a widening project, he said.

A vehicle that passed Green several minutes before the collision had turned around to see if he needed help. When it returned, the occupants found Green had been struck. He likely died on impact, Jensen said.

Investigators late Saturday afternoon said based on vehicle debris at the scene they are searching for a late 1990s or early 2000s Dodge Durango or Dodge Dakota. The vehicle likely has moderate damage to the windshield and passenger-side headlight, Jensen said. Investigators aren't certain about the Dodge's color, but said it may be silver.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to call 801-778-6600.
