Utah's House Speaker Greg Hughes says he will not run for Rep. Jason Chaffetz's congressional seat.

Hughes said on Friday that it's important for the vacancy to be filled as quickly as possible. He says he wants to take himself out of the equation so that this process can happen as fast as possible if it's needed.

Hughes says that he did consider running, but decided against it because he enjoys his position as speaker.

Chaffetz said last month that he would not seek another term in 2018 and he's open to a 2020 run for Utah governor.

He also said that he may not even finish the two-year term that started four months ago.
