Two Utah State football players have been charged with threatening a witness over potential burglary charges against two other members of the football team.

Kevin Meiztenheimer and Dayshawn Littleton, both 19, allegedly tried to hit the witness with their car and threatened to return and shoot the victim, Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen said Tuesday. Police arrested the suspects April 5 and found an assault rifle in the car, Jensen said.

Meiztenheimer and Littleton were each charged April 27 in Logan's 1st District Court with two counts of tampering with a witness, a third-degree felony, and one count of obstructing justice, a class A misdemeanor. Meiztenheimer also was charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and failing to remain at an accident that involved an injury, a class A misdemeanor.

The two allegedly were trying to prevent burglary charges from being filed against two fellow Aggie football players, Troy Murray and Jaylan Brown, both 19.

Murray was charged April 26 with burglary, a second-degree felony, and theft, a class B misdemeanor. Brown was charged Monday with class B misdemeanor theft by deception in Salt Lake City Justice Court.

Police arrested Murray and Brown on April 4 and 5, respectively, after electronics, including video game consoles, were stolen from a Logan apartment complex in December, Jensen said. Police traced the equipment to a pawn shop in Salt Lake City through a statewide law enforcement pawn shop database. Identification and a fingerprint are required by state law to sell items at a pawn shop, and that information is uploaded to the database, according to Jensen.

Three of the four suspects are redshirt freshmen. Mieztenheimer and Murray are linebackers and Brown is a cornerback.

Littleton had committed to the Utah State football team in May 2016, but doesn't appear on the roster.

Brown and Murray were both suspended indefinitely from all football activities after their arrests.
