Three men in their early 20s are in custody after a traffic stop turned into a manhunt on Saturday.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper pulled over an SUV for drifting out of its lane on Interstate 80 next to the Great Salt Lake at 10:30 a.m., and while the officer talked to the driver outside the car, the two passengers ran, according to UHP.

One man was arrested at the scene, and police found a "substantial amount of marijuana" in the rental car he'd been driving, said UHP Trooper Cameron Roden.

A witness reported that one man ran toward the mountain and hid in a marshy area, where police officers found and arrested him sometime before 6 p.m. Saturday after a search with dogs, multiple agencies and a helicopter.

The other man ran to a nearby scenic pullover, asked a stranger for a ride toward Tooele, then walked back to a TA gas station and called for a taxi, Roden said. An officer spotted him and arrested him, Roden said.

Police still are investigating.
