Park rangers recovered a body from the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park on Friday, and they believe it is that of a 14-year-old who was reported missing after hiking with his grandmother earlier this month.

Jackson Standefer and Lou-Ann Merrell, 62, were swept away by a backcountry creek on April 15 when they lost their footing and fell into the water.

People on a commercial river trip reported the body to park rangers, according to a news release from the National Park Service.

Officials are working to confirm that the body is Jackson's.

Jackson and Merrell, the wife of Merrell Boot Co. founder Randy Merrell, had been on a family trip in a remote part of the park.
