Multiple crashes involving 14 vehicles initially blocked all but one lane of southbound traffic on Interstate 15 at 2600 South in Bountiful on Friday afternoon.

The crashes occurred at 1:22 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

By 3:30 p.m., the center lanes of the freeway remained closed, according to the Utah Department of Transportation, which estimated that all lanes would be open by 4:30 p.m.

Officers were still investigating the cause, but UHP said it appeared that crashes were a chain reaction following an initial crash.

A few people suffered minor injuries, but nothing life-threatening, according to police.
