Bambi's gone, or at least the bronze version of a baby deer that was sawn away from a Holladay sculpture and carted away by thieves.

But the Unified Police Department, in releasing photos of the work by the late artist Miles Metzger, hopes the make it difficult to pawn this fawn.

In a work Metzger called "Tranquility," the baby deer formerly gazed up at an adult deer, shown in a vigilant stance as another deer feeds nearby. Then, sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, the fawn was removed from its concrete base within a landscaped area outside a business offices complex at 4725 S. Holladay Boulevard.

"The suspects appear to have known what they were doing and had the tools to do the theft quickly and efficiently," Unified Police Detective Arlan Bennett stated.

The sculpture was purchased in 1996 for $20,000 and erected on the site shortly thereafter, Bennett said Friday.

He asks that anyone with information on the theft call him at 801-274-8421 or email him at arbennett@updsl.org.
