Ogden • A new crosswalk signal is going up where a Utah teen was struck by two cars, one of which pinned him to the ground before he died of his injuries.

The Standard-Examiner reported that 14-year-old Dakota Kilburn was struck in the crosswalk in Syracuse the night of April 17. He was taken to a hospital and died the next morning.

Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Vic Saudners says the department has been planning a street-widening project in front of Syracuse Junior High School where Kilburn was struck.

As part of the project, crews will install a new button-activated signal that flashes bright lights, prompting drivers to stop for crossers.

The new signal is expected to be installed in time for the next school year.
