The death of an unidentified person in American Fork Canyon is not considered suspicious, a Utah County sheriff's official said Tuesday evening.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon said authorities are investigating, and that he could release no further details about the possible circumstances of the person's death or his or her identity until an autopsy is completed Wednesday.

The body was found Tuesday afternoon about 3 miles up the canyon, inside a car parked in a gravel pullout off State Route 92 near Timpanogos Cave. A maintenance worker came across the body and reported it to authorities, who responded to the scene about 2 p.m., Cannon said.

No cars were allowed into the canyon much of Tuesday afternoon because of the investigation. State Route 92 reopened at about 5 p.m.
