Unified Police have identified a woman who drowned while trying to save her dogs from a runoff-swollen creek at Salt Lake County's Tanner Park.

UPD Lt. Brian Lohrke said Liudmilla Feldman, 58, of Salt Lake City, was with her husband about 6 p.m. Sunday walking their pets near 2760 Heritage Way (2695 East). The dogs had jumped into the water and were struggling to get out.

Feldman went into the creek with others and the dogs were rescued, but then she was swept away by the current. A passerby pulled her from the water by her ankle about two minutes later, but efforts by paramedics to revive her were unsuccessful.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident prompted the Salt Lake City Emergency Management Office on Monday to warn residents to "be extra cautious around creeks and rivers this time of year. Keep kids and pets well away from these very cold and swift waters."
