A 15-year-old boy who had been pinned under a car died Tuesday, one day after being hit in a crosswalk near Syracuse Junior High School.
Impact from a southbound car knocked Dakota Kilburn — who was crossing 2000 West near 1450 South — into the northbound lanes, where he was pinned under a second vehicle at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, Syracuse police said.
A group of bystanders lifted the car off him, said Syracuse police Detective Erin Behm.
He was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where he died Tuesday morning from his injuries, according to Syracuse police.
No one else was injured, Behm said.
Both drivers stayed at the scene and were cooperating with the investigation.
The ninth grader had been a member of the Syracuse Junior High School Singers and was on the wrestling team, according to Davis School District, which is providing a crisis team of counselors on Tuesday and Wednesday to talk to any students or faculty members.
