An alleged home invasion in Syracuse ended when a teenage boy opened fire, wounding both his mother and the 17-year-old intruder.

Syracuse police Detective Erin Behm said officers responded to a 6 p.m. Wednesday 911 call of gunfire at 1850 S. Bluffridge Drive. The homeowner, rushing home when family members called him to report someone trying to break in, confronted the suspect.

During a subsequent struggle, the man's son, also 17, produced a handgun and shot the suspect, accidentally also wounding the woman.

Behm said Thursday that the suspect was not believed to have been armed, but apparently was physically imposing enough that the family felt threatened as he allegedly tried to break in.

Behm could not release further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The alleged intruder and the woman both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but police would not further describe their wounds.

Behm said no arrests had been made, and no additional suspects were being sought.
