South Salt Lake police have released the identity of a man who died in a house fire earlier this month.

SSLPD spokesman Gary Keller said Wednesday that the April 1 fire at 2389 S. 300 East claimed the life of Dan A. Villiard, 56.

Firefighters responding to the 9:30 a.m. blaze found flames and smoke pouring out of an upstairs bedroom, where Villiard was believed to reside. The two-story home was divided into at least three apartment units, but the fire was limited to the upstairs unit.

Firefighters were unable to get to Villiard until the flames were doused.

He was pronounced dead later. Four other residents were uninjured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
