Sandy police are investigating a late Thursday night automobile-pedestrian collision that fatally injured a man.

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. at 9210 S. State Street as two men in a crosswalk attempted to travel from the east to west side of State Street. A northbound vehicle struck one of the men, who was rushed to the hospital in "very critical" condition.

Police confirmed Friday that the man, believed to be in his late 40s, had died of his injuries.

Neither the second pedestrian nor the driver were hurt.

No citations were immediately issued.

There were no initial indications of drugs or alcohol being factors in the accident.

The victim's identity was being withheld pending notification of his family.
