West Valley City police on Monday identified a man whose body was found over the weekend in the Jordan River.

The body of Anthony Payne, 34, of West Valley City, was spotted Sunday morning by a TRAX rail passenger near 2340 S. 1070 West, said WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

"Officers checked the area and discovered the body partially submerged in the Jordan River," she said.

The cause of Payne's death has not yet been determined. The remains were turned over to the state medical examiner's office.

While no obvious signs of foul play were reported, the death was initially being investigated as suspicious, given the circumstances of its discovery and location, police said.
