Benjamin • A Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy and his nephew were found dead at a home near Spanish Fork on Friday, and Utah County deputies were investigating.

Police identified the men as Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Chad Elwood Conrad, 42, and Conrad's nephew, Damon Brian Bushman, 23. Both men lived in the home, a Utah County Sheriff's Office news release said. Conrad worked in corrections.

Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon said a 911 call came in at about 12:30 p.m. from a family member who had gone to the house, near 7600 South and 1800 West in Benjamin, to check on Conrad and found him dead in a bed inside. Conrad appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Cannon said.

Outside in the driveway, police found Bushman, who was dead from a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted, Cannon said.

"Clearly, when you have one person that dies of multiple gunshot wounds, there's anger there, but as to what it was about, we don't know," said Cannon. "The family member had suspected trouble, but I don't know that they expected this kind of trouble."

A statement on Unified Police Department's Twitter page said, "We will deeply miss Sgt. Chad Conrad. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all his brothers and sisters at [Salt Lake County jail]."

Conrad is survived by four children, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

A fundraiser motorcycle ride and raffle for Conrad's children is scheduled for 8 a.m. April 1 at Legends Vintage Motorcycles in Springville. More details are on Facebook.

The Facebook pages of Conrad and Bushman offer glimpses of their lives. Bushman worked at Wal-Mart and went to Spanish Fork High. He posted a photo of himself sitting in Conrad's cherished Charger.

Conrad owned a replica of "The General Lee," the 1969 Dodge Charger from the television series "The Dukes of Hazzard," complete with the orange paint, the big "01" on the door and the Confederate flag on the car roof.

He even made a YouTube video, spoofing the show's credits sequence, which ends in an animation of his car taking a jump over two police vehicles.

Conrad took the car to shows and appears to have driven it in a parade.

In another post, Conrad jokes that Bushman could be Luke, from "The Dukes of Hazzard," sharing a picture of the teen sitting on the driver-side door with his legs hanging into the car.

Conrad was also a sports fan, rooting for the Utah Jazz, Brigham Young University Cougars, the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Cubs.

He enjoyed making videos, including a proposed ad he submitted in a "Crash the Super Bowl" party hosted by Doritos. He offered to help people make videos through a side company.
