A crash involving multiple vehicles and injuries to more than a dozen people briefly closed southbound lanes on U.S. Highway 89/91 through Sardine Canyon before being reopened, the Utah Department of Transportation reported.

Authorities said the crash included two jackknifed semitrucks, two 15-passenger vans and two other vehicles. At least 15 people were injured, though none of them critically, according to Sgt. Todd Royce, a Utah Highway Patrol spokesman.

The National Weather Service reported on Twitter that the area saw a "quick, intense snow shower" at Sardine Summit about the time of the crash near Dry Lake.

Royce said it took just over an hour to clean up the crash, at which time traffic backed up in the canyon.
