A Monday morning small plane crash in Grand County claimed the life of its pilot.
The aircraft had just taken off from Canyonlands Airport, about 20 miles north of Moab, and was making a turn when it snagged a power line and plunged into a field.
Grand County sheriff's spokesman Rick Bailey said the single-engine Quest Kodiak caught fire when it hit the ground at 5:48 a.m.
The pilot, described only as an "older adult male," was dead on impact.
The man's identity was not immediately released pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
His body was turned over to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.
Bailey said the man was a contracted pilot for a company that moves freight. It was in route to Green River with a final planned destination of Salt Lake City. He said they don't know yet if the plane was empty or carrying cargo.
