Two of three inmates hospitalized after being stabbed during a Utah State Prison fight have returned to the facility's maximum security unit.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Maria Peterson also said Wednesday that most of the prison's operations had returned to normal, after the stabbings prompted a lockdown on Tuesday.

Inmates at the Oquirrh prison site, located in Draper, remained on a restricted operations regime, though visitations were allowed to resume.

The incident took place about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the maximum security Uinta Unit. In all, four inmates were involved in an altercation and three sustained stab wounds with a homemade weapon, Peterson said.

One inmate remained in the hospital Wednesday, seriously wounded but expected to recover.

What prompted the fight was under investigation by the Unified Police Department.
