Police hope the public will provide tips leading to the arrests of three suspects in the robbery and beating of a man outside a northwest Salt Lake City apartment complex.

Salt Lake police Detective Robert Ungricht said the 22-year-old victim was confronted near 900 North and 700 West about 10 p.m. Tuesday. The suspects — described only as two black males and one Latino male, all in their 20s — demanded the man's money.

When he refused, the trio attacked, striking and kicking him repeatedly in the face before taking his wallet and fleeing the scene. The dazed victim, suffering facial bruises and a broken nose, drove to a hospital.

Police officers, already at the hospital on an unrelated case, learned of the assault and interviewed the victim in the emergency room.

Ungricht said that other than the ethnicity of the suspects, and that all three wore dark hooded sweatshirts, the victim was unable to provide detailed descriptions.
