Provo police have arrested an 18-year-old man who they believe killed another man whose body was found in a transient camp.

Emmanuel DePaz was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of aggravated homicide.

On Monday, a passer-by spotted the body of 24-year-old Ammon Brown near 1600 S. State. Police say he had injuries to his head, face and throat, and they initially deemed the death "suspicious."

Provo police said Thursday that DePaz was seen with Brown and another man in that area, and video surveillance from nearby businesses showed him coming and going from the place where Brown's body was found.

He was arrested by Utah Transit Authority police at a train station in downtown Salt Lake City on Wednesday.

Officers obtained a warrant to search Brown's backpack and found a hatchet and a knife, Provo police wrote in a news release.

"The hatchet matched one taken from the crime scene as described by witnesses interviewed near the crime scene," the release states.

DePaz has not been formally charged as of Thursday. He has no prior criminal history in Utah, according to court records.
