The Cache County Sheriff's Office and animal control officers in the town of Millville are investigating an alleged attack by a dog that left three women with bite wounds.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Erin Griffith said a 20-year-old Millville woman was walking home Tuesday afternoon when she was confronted by the pit bull and a great dane. The pit bull, she told police, bit her and she screamed for help.

A 60-year-old neighbor, soon joined by a 54-year-old woman, tried to intervene and help the victim, only to be bitten themselves.

All three women suffered puncture wounds; one was taken to the hospital while two took private transportation to their doctors for treatment.

The pit bull was captured and taken into custody by the Cache Humane Society.

The fate of the dog, and nature of any charges to be filed against its owner, awaited the outcome of the investigation and review by the Millville city attorney.
