A medical examiner on Saturday positively identified the human remains found in Oregon as the daughter of one member from the Utah-based group The Piano Guys.
Annie Schmidt, the 21-year-old daughter of musician Jon Schmidt, was reported missing on Oct. 19 after she did not return from a hike near the Columbia River Gorge; her car was found near Bonneville Dam.
Jon Schmidt posted on Facebook on Friday that search and rescue dog located remains at the bottom of a cliff below Munra Point. The family said "the clothing and personal items found at the site" belonged to Annie, but were waiting for confirmation from an examiner.
The findings Saturday ruled the cause of death accidental.
"You have lived this trial with us, and we pray that this may bring a greater level of resolution and peace for all of us," Jon Schmidt wrote.
Annie Schmidt moved to Portland from Salt Lake City in July and enjoyed hiking. She was last seen by a roommate on Oct. 16. Michelle Schmidt, her mother, flew to Oregon to go on a camping trip with her daughter, but she wasn't able to contact her upon arrival. An expansive multiday search of the area followed.
