A Cache County man accidentally shot himself in the stomach Friday evening.

The man was cleaning and reassembling his handgun with a full magazine of ammunition when he fired a single round into his lower abdomen about 4:15 p.m., according to a news release from the Cache County Sheriff's Office. He called police from a Mendon home near 2500 South and 5900 West.

The 64-year-old man was conscious when transported to a local hospital, though police were unsure of his condition and the extent of his injuries.
