A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a FrontRunner commuter train in Provo late Monday morning.

Provo police said the victim was crossing the road northbound at 700 West and 600 South when she was hit about 11 a.m. She died at the scene.

Police Lt. Brandon Post did not immediately release the identity of the victim, pending notification of her next of kin.

He said the train crossing's barrier arms were down, but Post said police did not yet know if the woman intentionally walked into the path of the train or if it was an accident.

Emergency crews closed off traffic at 600 South while evidence was gathered and the remains and other evidence recovered. The road was reopened about 1:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported to the train's operator or passengers.
