A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after he stabbed a woman multiple times at her Cedar City home in what police called a "home invasion stabbing."

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, Cedar City police were dispatched to a home near 1300 West and 1500 South to find the attacker being held down by the homeowner, who is the husband of the victim, according to a police news release.

The woman was in the home with multiple stab wounds in her neck, chest and upper body area, police said.

She was taken to Cedar City Hospital, but her wounds do not appear to be life threatening, the news release said.

There were children in the home at the time, but no one else was injured.

The assailant, a Cedar City resident, suffered minor wounds on his hand and was treated at the hospital and later released to the custody of police.

Police said the motive for the stabbing is not immediately known.

Police said they would release more information as it becomes available.
