Police say it appears a homeless man found dead outside downtown Salt Lake City's Gallivan Center on Friday morning was the victim of a drug overdose.

"That's what we're thinking," said Salt Lake City police Detective Richard Chipping, though the official cause of death awaits an autopsy.

The man's body was discovered at 235 S. Main St. by a passing police officer, who initially thought the man was a transient sleeping.

Makeshift transient campsites have become commonplace in the downtown area and the blocks neighboring homeless shelters and services.

Police also have made numerous arrests of drug dealers allegedly selling to homeless clients in the area in recent weeks.
