A man was in critical condition after a Weber County crash on Wednesday afternoon.

The 26-year-old man, of Roy, was driving a sedan north on Midland Drive (3400 West) about 2:20 p.m., according to a Weber County Sheriff's Office news release. He crashed into the back of a truck that was traveling in front of him near 4800 South.

Because of the impact, the truck veered off the road to the east and rolled into fences behind nearby homes, the release states. The 51-year-old man in the truck — the sole occupant — suffered minor injuries.

The sedan went off the west side of the road, through a fence and landed in a field. The driver, its sole occupant, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Investigators believe he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, the release states.

Police also estimate that the sedan was traveling about 80 mph when it struck the truck.
